Get Your Tickets: App State Football Scheduled to Play Goku This Spring
January 21st, 2025
BOONE - Following spectacular defeats to Clemson and South Alabama this season, the Appalachian State Mountaineers are gearing up for an equally ambitious exhibition game this spring. Never the team to stay within their league, ASU has invited Son Goku to Kidd Brewer Stadium, something diehard ‘Neer fans will note hasn't happened in nearly ten years. The team's track record for non-conference matchups this season has left fans and players alike defeat-weary and hesitant about their chances, but new head coach Dowell Loggains says he's not worried.
“This past season wasn't our best in recent years, but if you just look at our rushing yards, I like our chances,” Loggains commented to the Rotten Appal in an interview Wednesday. “Don't forget we went 17-14 against Texas A&M in ‘22, and that whole, uh, Michigan thing. We’re really going to have to lean on our pass rush in this one, but we trust our offense and want to just put the ball in our quarterback’s hands as much as possible. It worked against Frieza in 2016, he wasn’t able to hit our guys consistently, and I really don’t think ultra instinct will make a difference.” To back up his speculation, Loggains cited clips of App State's offense along with several sped-up Dragon Ball Z fights on Shorts to give us an in-depth comparison of each side's capabilities.
Of course, Loggains isn't the only one with thoughts on the upcoming game. Football fans and powerscalers alike have been flooding student Snapchat stories with their predictions. Discussion is complicated further by the match's unprecedented relocation to the Jim and Bettie Smith Baseball Stadium upon Goku's request to “fight somewhere empty.” For live coverage during the game and in-depth analysis afterwards, follow Rotten Appal Sports.
