App State Curling Team Wins Championship, But You Should Have Known That Already

BOONE - The App State Curling Mountaineers brought home the gold last weekend from the Intercollegiate Cold Indoor Games Championship in Pigeon Forge. If this uncultivated campus cared about anything other than pedestrian, crapulent football, we wouldn’t be the first ones to pick this story up.
The mountaineers swept the Fuquay-Varina YMCA in the first round before facing Tri-County Technical College, where they won the series in six games. When the tourney reconvened after lunch, App State began the 9-game odyssey against the defending champ High Point Pointer Fingers, truncated by a 20-minute power outage and ending in an overtime stunner. The win was App’s first in an over 35-year-old rivalry. Though they weren’t able to complete the final series, the Neers defeated the Bowling Green Lebowskis by judges’ decision in order to have time to clean the stadium for the Harlem Globetrotters.
They didn’t do half-bad in the air hockey competition either, but they weren’t really trying to do well, so it wasn’t a big deal, and nobody was upset. They even used their own quarters to turn the thing on, and the school didn’t reimburse them. They reimbursed them for gas, but not the quarters. No big deal.
